Chosen by Time Out Portugal as "one to watch" in 2018, Mathilda has been dazzling audiences since her debut on stage, in late 2017.
Mathilda is an 18-year-old singer-songwriter, whose live performances deliver an array of catchy and tender folk tunes, already compared to the likes of Cat Power and Feist. Her live performances often feature Diogo Alves Pinto, experienced one-man band who devotes his hands and feet to guitar and drums. They've been touring together, playing songs off their upcoming debut album, to be released in the fall of 2019.
A year after releasing her first song "Infinite Lapse", Mathilda - or Mafalda Costa - offers us a dash of her candour again. She since earned words of support in national and international publications, more than 40 concerts between Portugal, Spain and England and, above all, time and space to outline the debut album. "Small Fish Lilac Skies" is the song chosen to open the door to its first long-lasting, name-guarded secret, which will see the light of day in the autumn of 2019. The theme is full of imperfections it addresses, reflecting the fragility of growth and the insecurity of new beginnings. It was recorded live in the first take by Diogo Alves Pinto at Planalto Records studio and the video was imagined and performed by Joana Jorge, with the collaboration of Mariana Santiago.

"The first musical sample, Infinite Lapse, shows a rare sensibility in stitching chords together and in gliding her voice through melodies. And this is only the beginning." - Time Out Portugal
